Chanderpaul defies England

The West Indies batsman progressed from 81 overnight to claim his 15th Test century shortly before lunch and his first in two years to keep his side on track for an historic triumph.
Chanderpaul's determined unbeaten 104, which spanned over six hours at the crease, allowed the tourists to progress from 301 for five overnight to reach 379 for seven at lunch - just 76 runs away from what would be a stunning triumph.
West Indies had begun the final day needing 154 more runs to break their own Test record of the highest successful run-chase in a fourth innings of 418 recorded against Australia at Antigua four years ago.
But their hopes were quickly undermined with wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin falling to the 15th ball of the day with left-arm seamer Monty Panesar claiming the crucial early breakthrough.
Ramdin had added eight runs to his overnight 24, cutting the first ball of the day from Panesar for four and also upper cutting Steve Harmison over the slip cordon for another boundary.
Panesar claimed his revenge, however, by striking in his second over with a sharply turning delivery which Ramdin edged to Paul Collingwood at slip via Matt Prior's gloves.
It was the breakthrough England desperately wanted, but they once again found more determined resistance in new batsman Darren Sammy, who frustrated their efforts for a further 58 minutes before Panesar struck again to claim his fifth five-wicket Test haul.
Just six overs later Panesar should have claimed his sixth wicket with new batsman Jerome Taylor edging him to Collingwood at slip only for the chance to be missed.
That allowed West Indies to survive unscathed without any further loss until the interval with Taylor finishing unbeaten on 10 having survived for 51 minutes.
