Chanderpaul ton leads Windies
04 January 2007
His partnership of 175 in 33 overs with Marlon Samuels - a record on the ground for the third wicket in limited overs internationals - was the bedrock of the Windies total of 278 for five from 50 overs.
Chanderpaul needed 85 balls to reach 50 but he raced to his seventh ODI ton off only another 29 deliveries and his unbeaten 116 contained three sixes and 10 fours.
The last 10 overs realised 102 runs and England paceman Jimmy Anderson felt the brunt of the onslaught, conceding 56 from his last four overs to finish with one for 78.
The early overs were a mixture of much playing and missing from Chris Gayle and his opening partner Devon Smith and some powerful shots.
Chanderpaul needed 21 deliveries to register his first boundary and that came from an unconvincing edge off Sidebottom which flew wide of Wicketkeeper Matt Prior.
The 100 partnership between Chanderpaul and Samuels came up off 149 balls and the West Indies had built a platform for the late assault after reaching 176 for two off 40 overs.
The next five overs were plundered for 62 runs with Anderson conceding 18 in the 43rd over and his replacement Sidebottom hit for 19 in the 45th.
