Cipriani ready for Wasps return

England fly-half Danny Cipriani is ready to make his return to action in Wasps' Guinness Premiership clash with Bath on Wednesday - six weeks ahead of schedule.

Cipriani suffered a fractured ankle dislocation in Wasps' Premiership semi-final win over Bath last May and he was not initially expected to be playing again until late November.

But the 20-year-old has come through four full contact training sessions over the last week and, after working with sprint coach Margot Wells, his times are even better than before.

"It is obviously fate to return against Bath. I can't wait to be back. I am so excited," said Cipriani.

"I still have a lot of sharpening-up work to do but my times over 50 metres and 30m are my best so far.

"When I'm running or stepping the ankle feels 100%. I'm not yet match-fit, but that is what I need to work towards in the next couple of weeks."

Wasps director of rugby Ian McGeechan insists he would never rush a player back before he was ready just to help a team which has been struggling.

"We are playing a very in-form Bath side who are playing some very good rugby and we have to manage the expectations around that and Danny's return," said McGeechan.

"We want to give him some game time as we see it as the last step in his rehabilitation.

"Realistically I wouldn't expect him to be really on top of his game, certainly without two or three matches under his belt. We have to give him that time."
