Cipriani vows to make England return

Danny Cipriani has vowed to regain his England place after admitting he thought he had done enough to earn a recall this summer.

The Wasps fly-half has been included in the second-string Saxons squad heading to the Churchill Cup in Denver rather than the main party who will play a Test series against Argentina.

The 21-year-old intends to prove his worth, and told BBC Radio Five Live: "It's a way for me to get into the senior side."

England manager Martin Johnson overlooked Cipriani for the RBS 6 Nations earlier this year and has told him he will be paying close attention to how he deals with this latest disappointment.

He added: "I'd have liked to have thought my form was good enough but he (Johnson) thought it wasn't so you've got to go out with the Saxons and put a marker down."

Cipriani has seen a number of fly-halves seemingly go above him in the pecking order, with Leicester's uncapped Sam Vesty picked for the Argentina Tests.

"It's massive inspiration to get up that ranking," continued Cipriani. "It's why I chose rugby, to pull on an England shirt, so I've got a massive desire."

While Johnson chose not to select Cipriani, he has been placed on standby for the British and Irish Lions' tour to South Africa.

Asked about his different status in the eyes of Johnson and Lions and former Wasps coach Ian McGeechan, Cipriani said: "It's a difference of opinion.

"I've just got to make sure I do all the things Johnno wants me to do and hopefully he can see I'm ready to pull on the England shirt again."
