After their first 'giant-killing' of the season against Manchester United on Wednesday the Clarets face Everton and comparisons have already been made between what David Moyes has achieved at Everton and what fellow Scot Coyle could do with Burnley.

"Burnley are a completely different entity from anyone. We came into the Premier League with an average attendance of 13,000," said Coyle. "We really are unique and we like it that way. Anything we have to do we have to do on our own merits."

He added: "Last season we were tipped for relegation from the Championship and we were in the bottom four for turnover in the division and we defied the so-called critics because we believe in each other and what we are doing.

"If we play to our maximum we can win games, we have shown that time and time again.

"We have good players and anyone who under-estimates that then they will know that."

Despite their shock victory over United, Burnley are still one of the favourites to go down just 12 months after winning promotion via the Championship play-offs but that does not concern Coyle.

"The win gives the players confidence going into the game on Sunday," he said. "We have to add to that, gain more points and get some momentum because we are capable of winning matches.

"We are under no illusions how hard the job will be, we just have to stay united as a group."
