Rovers, who secured their Super League survival with two matches to spare, have already made six signings for 2008 and, with more to come, coach Justin Morgan has wielded the axe, which has fallen on six members of his promotion-winning team of 2006.
The 27-year-old Ward, who made 21 appearances after joining the club from Castleford, is the most high-profile casualty and he has already been linked with a move to Wigan.
Another recruit from Castleford, threequarter Luke Dyer, who has missed only one match of Rovers' inaugural Super League campaign, is expected to join National League One newcomers Celtic Crusaders, along with Mark Lennon.
Others released are Matty Brooks, Byron Ford, Tommy Gallagher and Gareth Morton, who all ended the season on loan to other clubs, and Andreas Bauer, Jon Goddard, Iain Morrison, David Tangata-Toa and Ryan Tandy.
In addition, Australian forward Mark O'Neill is retiring at the age of 32 and full-back Ian Hardman is returning to St Helens after the completion of his loan period.
Hull KR coach Justin Morgan said: "I would like to thank all the players that are leaving for their contribution this year and last year.
"This season has been an achievement that they should be proud of. I wish each and every player success for the future."
Rovers' confirmed signings for 2008 are Jake Webster (Gold Coast), Shaun Briscoe (Hull), Peter Fox (Wakefield), Chev Walker (Bath RU), Ben Galea and Daniel Fitzhenry (both Wests Tigers).
