Collingwood puts club antics in the past

Paul Collingwood is aiming to put his off-field antics behind him and inspire a determined England display as they cling to the hope of reaching the World Twenty20 semi-finals.

England must hope that New Zealand beat South Africa this afternoon and they claim a comprehensive win over India under the Kingsmead lights to have any chance of qualifying for the last four.

Collingwood stressed: "We've obviously played against India a fair bit. We know their bowlers and batsmen and we're confident coming up against them."

England's hopes of reaching the final stages of the tournament have been undermined by inconsistent displays on the pitch while the squad may have been distracted by the attention surrounding Collingwood's visit to a lap-dancing bar in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The England one-day captain was fined around £1,000 after admitting that reports in The Sun newspaper were true. They reported that he had visited the bar just a day before Sunday's defeat to South Africa - when Collingwood missed a catch and was out for a duck.

But both Collingwood and England are keen to put all that behind them as they set their sights on the familiar challenge of facing India, who they have recently beaten in a seven-match one-day series.

Collingwood said: "What we need to do is go out there and give it a good go. We have to win, we have to win well and we're also dependent on other results as well.

"The group is very interesting but what we have to do is win that game well and that means we all go out there with belief and try to express ourselves.

"As long as we give it a good go I'll be happy with the players. So far in this tournament the commitment and the effort has been really good, we've just been off the mark about 10%."
