Coltart eyes career boost

Former Ryder Cup player Andrew Coltart played himself into contention for a second Qatar Masters crown with a superb third-round 65 to sit just a stroke adrift of leader Johan Edfors.

But more importantly for Coltart, victory at the Doha Golf Club would see the 37-year-old regain his European Tour card which he lost last November.

Coltart, who faces a bleak year with only two confirmed appearances after being forced to rely on invitations, said: "You get quite low when you come home every Friday and you're not making any money. It means a lot just to be able to shoot that score again and get myself back into contention."

He added: "There are still a lot of guys capable of winning and I've just got to play my own game, one shot at a time."

Dubai-based Swede Edfors, who began the day with a two-stroke cushion, carded a 69 to remain at the top of the leaderboard.

Coltart is in second place on 11 under par, a shot clear of in-form Swede Henrik Stenson (67) and South Africa's Charl Schwartzel (69).

World number eight Adam Scott matched Coltart's 65 to sit at eight under alongside Ross McGowan (69) and Johnnie Walker Classic champion Anton Haig (69).

Colin Montgomerie (69) and Frenchman Christian Cevaer (68) are one stroke further back alongside Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, who carded a flawless 66.
