Robinson's final game on the domestic scene looked likely to end in defeat before he showed his class from 30 yards out to earn Sale a first victory since January.
Robinson said: "It's just unbelievable, especially after losing in the last minute last week. Things haven't gone our way and in the last five minutes I was just thinking 'Please Lord, just give me an opportunity' and if you were to write a script, not just for this game, but for my career, I couldn't have written it better."
The 32-year-old is now available for England duty until the World Cup in the Autumn but ended his Sharks career with a try that ensures they will be in the Guinness Premiership next season.
Robinson added: "It's been a tough season for the fans and it's a nice way to end, especially for myself and the boys that are leaving.
"I've got mixed emotions but no regrets and I've enjoyed every minute."
Sale director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre saluted "typical Jason Robinson" and then cheekily offered the World Cup-winner a chance to continue his club career.
Saint-Andre said: "It's typical Jason Robinson. When you thought we have lost a game and the first time we get two passes, he does what he does best.
"He hit the line in space and we scored. It's a fantastic finish for Jason and I just hope if he is bored after the World Cup and he wants a few games with us, he's more than welcome!"
