Constancy breeds success - Vaughan

Michael Vaughan is looking for England to demonstrate similar consistency both on and off the pitch as they chase a series victory over New Zealand in the final Test at Trent Bridge.

England's selectors have provided their own form of stability by naming an unchanged squad and confirming an identical line-up for the fifth successive Test, a situation which has not happened since 1884-5.

Captain Vaughan said: "We've played four games together and won three of those and we feel we're developing as a side."

The Yorkshireman wants the players to build on the selectors consistency by delivering a sustained performance to seal a comfortable npower series triumph before they begin plotting bigger challenges ahead with the visit of South Africa later this summer.

He added: "There are areas we can improve on but we've shown a lot of character and resilience in positions that maybe we wouldn't have done six or seven months ago.

"That's always a good place to start developing as a team. We realise that scoring runs in the first innings is something we have to try to do and certainly to beat the better teams in the world we have to do that more consistently.

"There are periods when we're very exciting as a bowling unit and periods where we're a bit inconsistent but that's the inexperience of some of the bowlers as well so you have to give them time to develop.

"As a fielding unit at stages we're very good and at other stages we're not so good so it's just trying to find that consistency all round that we need to develop to really become a good team."
