Cooke savours homecoming

Olympic gold medallist Nicole Cooke believes her team-mates will be looking forward to sharing their excitement with the British public.

Cooke, who won Britain's first gold of the Beijing Games with victory in the women's cycling road race, came home early from the Games to celebrate her success with family and back-up staff.

Cooke, who was at Heathrow Airport to greet the team members who arrived home on a special British Airways flight from China, said: "I think everyone will be looking forward to sharing their excitement with the British public."

She added: "Within the cycling team there was such a good spirit going into the Games, everyone wanted to be as successful as possible."
