Corser lapped the Victoria circuit in a best time of one minute 32.336 seconds on his Yamaha Italia YZF-R1, just ahead of series leader Bayliss.
Bayliss, who is still nursing the effects of a broken collarbone sustained in a crash at Phillip Island in testing in January, clocked a best time of 1min 32.374secs on his Xerox Ducati 1098.
Corser, who took pole at the series opener in Losail, Qatar, last weekend, said: "The track is a bit bumpier each time we go out, even compared to the winter tests we did here.
"I'm happy enough with that time but we've still got work to do on the settings for race day. It's only Friday but I'm pretty happy with the performance on this first day."
