Coyle hails hero Jensen

Owen Coyle paid tribute to penalty shoot-out hero Brian Jensen after the Burnley goalkeeper sent Chelsea crashing out of the Carling Cup.

Burnley reached the last eight of the league cup for the first time in 26 years thanks to Jensen's heroics in a dramatic finale at Stamford Bridge. Jensen saved spot-kicks from Wayne Bridge and John Mikel Obi to dump the Barclays Premier League leaders out of the competition 5-4 on penalties after the match had finished 1-1 after extra-time.

"Brian has been outstanding all season and I felt he would stop a minimum of one penalty," said Coyle. "He's worked hard in training but we didn't practice penalties as who would have thought we would be in a penalty shoot-out?"

Coyle hailed his side's terrific team spirit and work ethic as they made Chelsea look ordinary for long spells in the second half.

Didier Drogba's first goal of the season in the 27th minute looked to have rattled Burnley but the second-half introduction of 34-year-old striker Ade Akinbiyi proved to be the turning point.

The veteran of 11 clubs pounced to level the scores 20 minutes from time when Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini failed to hold a shot from Chris Eagles.

"Ade is a model professional and even when he is not involved he is helping and supporting the other players," said Coyle.

"When he got on he led the line well and that was the turning point for us

"But to come to Chelsea who are top of the Premier League, favourites for the Champions League and one of the elite clubs in the world, and win the game, shows the magnitude of effort put in by the players.

"In terms of scalps, they don't come much bigger than Chelsea. To come to Chelsea, an elite club, and knock them out of the cup, is a great moment."
