Dallaglio: Sackey's not a magician

Lawrence Dallaglio believes "hard done by" winger Paul Sackey will feel he lost his place in the England team to play France because he cannot conjure a rabbit from a hat like the magician Paul Daniels.

Sackey has been replaced in the team for Sunday's RBS 6 Nations showdown by Harlequins winger Ugo Monye, who has made just one Guinness Premiership start since recovering from a back injury.

"If I was Paul Sackey I would feel quite hard done by, I would feel quite upset. After all, my name is Paul Sackey not Paul Daniels and I can't work magic," said Dallaglio, who was speaking at an event hosted by Greene King IPA. "If wingers don't get the ball they get increasingly frustrated. Paul is a guy you have to involve in a game."

He added: "They have argued Paul's form is not up to scratch - but they have replaced him with a player who has hardly played. I am slightly confused by that."

Sackey's omission is one of three changes Martin Johnson has made to the England team beaten 14-13 by Ireland at Croke Park.

Nick Kennedy and James Haskell have both dropped to the bench, with Johnson awarding starts to veteran Wasps lock Simon Shaw and Leicester flanker Tom Croft.

Johnson has challenged Sackey to prove him wrong.

"I just don't think Paul has been at his best during the tournament," said Johnson.

"He has done some good work in this team for the last two years and I don't make that call lightly.

"It is up to him now to respond back with his club and show the hunger to get back into the side, as a number of players have done when they have been left out."
