DeGale's in no hurry

Olympic boxing champion James DeGale has pleaded with the public not to think he is greedy as he mulls over multi-million pound offers to turn professional.

DeGale, who shot to fame this August when he overcame Cuba's Emilio Correa 16-14 in the middleweight final of the Beijing Games, revealed on Monday that he had been offered "nearly two million pounds" from an unnamed promoter to turn professional.

"I don't want people to think I just want all this money and that I am a greedy guy with all this £2million (figure being talked about)," he told Setanta Sports News.

"I don't want people to think because I won a gold medal I have started demanding money. I just want what I think I deserve and what everyone else has got.

"I haven't taken that figure out of the air. I've talked to a lot of people.

"I have spoken to Amir Khan and other people in boxing. They have said that's just what I should be looking for."

The middleweight fighter said his future would be decided shortly after a series of meetings with British and American promoters.

He said he would not be taking the decision lightly and would seek the advice of British Olympic boxing coach Terry Edwards before making his decision.

"I have spoken to a couple of people. I have had a couple meetings with promoters - but the main one is Terry Edwards, I have got to speak with him yet," he added.

"I'll see him next week and I'm looking forward to that."
