Dellacqua stuns Mauresmo

Australia's Casey Dellacqua claimed the biggest victory of her career by knocking out 2006 Australian Open champion Amelie Mauresmo in the third round of the Melbourne tournament on Friday.

The world No 78, who had never been past the first round in five previous attempts, came from a set down to defeat the 18th seed 3-6 6-4 6-4.

Mauresmo's nerves again got the better of her as she lost the final game from 40-0 up to hand Dellacqua victory.

Frenchwoman Mauresmo, who slumped outside the world top 10 on the back of an interrupted 2007 season, struggled on serve and endured 10 double faults, including six in the second set and three in the decider.

She broke Dellacqua midway through the third set to lock the game away at 3-3 and seemed destined to down her less experienced 22-year-old opponent.

However, 18th seed Mauresmo struck trouble on serve and handed the break back immediately.

Unsettled by another double fault in the 10th game, a frustrated Mauresmo then watched helplessly as a booming Dellacqua forehand flashed by her to signal the end of her resistance.

Dellacqua moves on to a fourth-round meeting with Serbian third-seed Jelena Jankovic.
