Derbyshire land Langeveldt

Head of cricket John Morris believes fast bowler Charl Langeveldt brings "proven quality" to Derbyshire after the county finalised a deal to sign the player on a two-year deal.

The South African has signed for Derbyshire as a Kolpak player and goes straight into their squad for the Friends Provident Trophy match against Yorkshire at Headingley on Sunday.

Morris said: "Charl is an excellent addition to our squad and brings real quality and experience to our side."

He added: "He has proven ability at the highest level of the game and just as importantly is exactly the sort of character we are looking for.

"We have managed to bring him to Derbyshire ahead of several other options he had and we are delighted to have him on board."

Langeveldt is a veteran of 59 one-day internationals including two World Cup campaigns and has taken 82 wickets at an average of 28.46.

The 33-year-old has also represented South Africa in six Test matches - taking 16 wickets at an average of 37.06 - and has taken 228 first-class and 243 one-day wickets in over a decade at the top of the South African domestic game.

His last international appearance came in March of this year and he was recently selected for the South Africa tour of India but pulled out of the trip.
