The Serbian finished with 13 aces against Roddick and won 81% of the points on his first serve.
After taking the first set in a tiebreaker, Djokovic was level Roddick at 4-4 in the second before notching one of his two breaks en route to taking the final two games and the match.
Djokovic, 20, has climbed to fourth in the world this year following his win at Indian Wells among his three titles in 2007 and semi-final appearances at the French Open and Wimbledon.
Nadal posted a 4-6 6-2 6-3 comeback victory over Frank Dancevic, while in the other half of the draw, defending champion Roger Federer continued his dominance over Lleyton Hewitt with a 6-3 6-4 triumph over the Australian.
Federer raced out to a 4-2 lead in the first set and fired down 13 aces, while breaking the Australian three times and saving two of three breaks chances in finishing off the match which lasted just short of an hour and a half.
"I think it was a tough match," said Federer. "Maybe the score and everything, it looked like I was pretty much in control. If you look at the first set, it took 45 minutes. We had our chances, both of us, on both serves. It went my way in the end because I served well in the important moments.
"I think the second set, once he broke back, I knew this was going to be now one of those tough matches against Lleyton again. Thank God I played a good game to break him. In the end, really, I served well. I was just more consistent from the baseline."
Federer has now won 10 straight meetings with Hewitt since 2004, which included a 6-0 7-6 (7-3) 6-0 dismantling in the final of the U.S. Open three years ago.
The Swiss world number one will face Czech Radek Stepanek, who posted a 6-4 7-5 victory over fourth seed Nikolay Davydenko, in the last four. Stepanek had already beaten sixth seed Fernando Gonzalez and 12th seeded German Tommy Haas in Montreal.
