The diminutive scrum-half scored two of Justin Morgan's side's eight tries - three of which went to Shaun Briscoe - and kicked seven goals to become the first man in the competition to reach 200 points for the season.
Dobson's efforts also helped his side open up a five-point cushion over their nearest rivals with just four games of the regular season remaining.
For long periods of an entertaining game it had looked as though Castleford could take the points themselves and move into the top five, but, after trailing 20-18 at the break, Rovers posted three tries in 12 minutes at the start of the second half to send themselves into the Challenge Cup break on a high.
David Howell claimed two second-half tries as Harlequins moved back into the play-off places with a hard-fought 22-14 win at Bradford.
Howell, returning from a three-match ban, crossed twice in the final 15 minutes at the Grattan Stadium - after the Bulls had taken a 14-10 lead.
Matt Gafa and Ryan Esders were also on the scoresheet as Brian McDermott's men ended a damaging run of six successive defeats and left the Bulls well out of the play-off race.
Bradford had twice led after an early Semi Tadulala effort and later tries from Paul Sykes and Chris Nero. But they were unable to maintain the momentum.
