Donald leads at Honda Classic

World number 16 Luke Donald fired a six-under-par 64 to take a one-shot lead over compatriot Brian Davis after the opening round of the Honda Classic.

Australia's Matthew Jones is a further shot adrift, with world number four Ernie Els headlining a group of five at three under.

Defending champion Mark Wilson struggled to a three-over 73 after faltering down the stretch.

"I really played pretty consistently throughout the day - I did a lot of good things around the greens and when I had my chances I took them," said Donald.

"I need to improve my driving, though. I probably hit only half the fairways."
