Dredge on the level

Wales' Bradley Dredge made a solid start to the USPGA Championship at Southern Hills on Thursday.

Dredge started his round with four consecutive pars to lie two behind early leader Mark Wilson of the United States.

Wilson got off to a flying start with birdies at the 10th and 11th but Darren Clarke and France's Gregory Havret fell off the pace quickly.

Clarke started with a double bogey on the 10th while Havret carded bogeys at the first and third and was two over after three.

Defending champion Tiger Woods was about to begin his quest for a fourth PGA title and 13th major championship overall.
