England's two biggest stars stayed behind on the island on Monday to have further scans on injuries sustained during Sunday's nine-wicket triumph over West Indies at Kensington Oval, which set up a series decider on Friday.

But the scans, which were sent back to London for further examination, have cleared both players to rejoin the squad and they will travel to meet up with their team-mates at their St Lucia base.

Pietersen was only able to deliver five balls in Sunday's match before limping off the field with a back spasm which England feared could have ruled him out of the final match.

All-rounder Flintoff suffered a left thumb injury in the field and although an ultra-sound scan confirmed there was no fracture on Sunday, he was sent for a further examination as a precaution.
