Duo in court on assault charges

Two Great Britain rugby league stars appeared in court on Wednesday charged with assault following an alleged incident at a house.

Warrington Wolves full-back Stuart Reardon is accused of assaulting his wife at a house in Bradford, West Yorkshire, last month, while St Helens stand-off Leon Pryce is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm on a man at the same address.

Both players are also charged with using violence to gain entry to the property on Westwood Hall.

During a brief hearing at Bradford Magistrates' Court, Pryce and Reardon, both aged 26 and from Bradford, spoke only to confirm their names, dates of birth and addresses.

The charges were then read out to both defendants.

The court clerk said Reardon, wearing a grey suit, black shirt and a cast on his leg, faced a charge of assaulting his wife, Kay Reardon, on July 12.

The clerk told Reardon he was also charged with using violence with the purpose of securing entry to a property, "knowing there was someone present on those premises who was opposed to your entry".

Pryce, wearing a black suit and white shirt, was told he faced the same charge of using violence to gain entry.

The clerk added that he was also accused of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on Damon O'Brien.

The case was adjourned until September 4. Both defendants were given conditional bail to appear back at the same court on that date.
