Durham hit record total at Lord's

Durham set a record total for a 50-over final at Lord's today, with Shivnarine Chanderpaul continuing his prolific summer to help them reach a commanding 312 for five in the Friends Provident Trophy.

Despite facing Hampshire's star-studded side captained by Shane Warne, unfancied Durham broke the record for a total scored in a final since it reverted from 60 to 50 overs.

The foundations for their superb total were built by West Indian batsman Chanderpaul, who hit 78 off 79 balls, before captain Dale Benkenstein hammered an unbeaten 61.

Benkenstein hit five fours and three sixes in his superb 43-ball innings and was well supported by Ottis Gibson, who finished unbeaten on 15 and helped add 33 crucial runs off the final two overs of the innings.

Daren Powell picked up two wickets for Hampshire but former Australia leg-spinner Warne finished wicketless.
