Eboue targets third place

Emmanuel Eboue has urged Arsenal to salvage something from the ruins of another trophyless season by overhauling Chelsea in the Barclays Premier League.

The fourth-placed Gunners face Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday knowing victory would leave them three points behind their capital rivals.

"Third is the focus because we have lost everything now," Eboue told www.setanta.com. "We were knocked out of the FA Cup and now the Champions League, so now we have to think about the league."

He added: "It's very difficult for us because over the last three weeks we have thought about winning something this season for the club, but we haven't won anything.

"We were disappointed about the result but that is football, we cannot do anything."

Arsenal's last hope of winning their first piece of silverware since lifting the FA Cup in 2005 vanished in Tuesday's 3-1 Champions League defeat by Manchester United.

"Manchester United did very, very well and now it is finished for us," said Eboue.

"It is very bad for Arsenal, we wanted to win for ourselves and for the fans. We tried our best."

Gael Clichy will be missing for Arsenal's final three matches of the season with a back problem.

The French defender sustained the injury during the Gunners' Champions League quarter-final first leg at Villarreal on April 7.
