ECB give clearance for 10 players

But four players have seen their bids rejected, the quartet being: Wavell Hinds, Johan Van der Wath, Andrew Hall and Justin Kemp.
Free to play, subject to receipt of necessary paperwork, are: Hamish Marshall (Gloucestershire), Jason Gillespie (Glamorgan), Shane Bond (Hampshire), Saqlain Mushtaq (Surrey), Boyd Rankin (Warwickshire), Johan Louw (Northamptonshire), Alfonso Thomas (Somerset), Dominic Telo (Derbyshire), Ryan Harris (Sussex) and Pedro Collins (Surrey).
The ECB have yet to clarify the exact rationale behind the decisions but overseas and Kolpak players are required to produce No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from their home board as part of their application.
A number of the 14 players involved have played in the rebel Indian Cricket League and international boards had previously refused to issue the certificates because of their participation in an unsanctioned tournament.
The issue was muddied recently by the decision of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to grant NOCs to Mushtaq Ahmed and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan which allowed them to take up contracts with Sussex and Yorkshire respectively despite their ICL involvement.
The New Zealand board now appear to have followed suit with the decision to allow Bond and Marshall to compete in the 2008 English domestic season.
Marshall expressed his delight after being given the all-clear and said: "I am extremely pleased that my registration has been approved by the ECB.
"It has been a weight on my shoulders for the last couple of weeks and I am pleased I can now concentrate on my cricket and help make this a great year for Gloucestershire."
Gloucestershire chief executive Tom Richardson added: "We are delighted that Hamish can play. We can now kick off the season with a full batting line up."
