Edwards snatches pole

Colin Edwards claimed his second pole of the MotoGP season in qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Donington Park.

The American snatched pole from his Italian Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi with one lap remaining with a time of 1min 28.531sec as he bids to win his maiden career grand prix.

Young Catalan rider Dani Pedrosa, who won last year's race in Leicestershire, will start Sunday's race in third.

But Edwards also joined criticism of the track at Donington, which was resurfaced in 2005 as part of a £5million development programme.

He said: "You need to take risks to go fast, but with cold tyres Craner Curves in particular can be deadly."

Reigning champion Nicky Hayden, also of Repsol Honda, was fourth quickest and Ducati Marlboro's Casey Stoner, the championship leader, fifth.
