21 January 2007
Ekoku succeeded former Wigan and Great Britain forward Phil Clarke in June 2006 - initially working alongside coach Brian Noble and, more recently, with his successor Tony Smith in the Gillette Fusion Test Series against New Zealand.
"With the introduction of the new England team in 2008, it seems an appropriate time for me to step down," he said.
"I am immensely proud to have represented Great Britain Rugby League, and it has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with a fantastic group of players.
"I am very excited about their chances of success in next year's World Cup."
The Rugby Football League will consult Smith, who is combining his coaching duties with that of technical director, before making a new appointment.
