Elano saddened by lack of City action

Manchester City midfielder Elano has spoken of his disappointment at his lack of first-team action for the club this season.

The 27-year-old Brazilian made an instant impact in the Premier League following his arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer, but has had limited chances under new manager Mark Hughes.

He told Sky Sports News: "It's his (Hughes') right, he is the manager. I respect him and I will keep working, arriving on time and doing my duties at the club, but my sadness is not playing."

He added: "I can't hide that from the fans or the president, who wants to make this a big club. I think I have the capabilities to be playing."

City have been catapulted into the Premier League's big league following a summer takeover by an Abu Dhabi-based group, and Elano predicts a bright future for the club despite their current league struggles.

"City have a big project, they have something which not many clubs have at the moment - money," he added.

"I want to help by playing. I respect everyone here. I have many friends here and get on with the team 100%.

"I respect the manager a lot but I cannot be happy if I don't play."
