England bat first

Under-fire England captain Michael Vaughan won the toss and chose to bat in the third npower Test against West Indies at Old Trafford.

Vaughan, who came into the match having to face up to some unguarded comments claiming injured team-mate Andrew Flintoff's antics affected team spirit spirit in the recent World Cup, opted to make first use of the Manchester surface despite some cloud cover.

He may have expected some hostility from Flintoff's home crowd but it did not materialise as he greeted new West Indies captain Daren Ganga in the middle.

England were unchanged, while West Indies named the fit-again Shivnarine Chanderpaul, debutant Darren Sammy and Fidel Edwards in their side.
