England draw as KP comes up short

Kevin Pietersen missed out as England batted out a draw against a Sri Lanka Cricket Board President's XI.

England's premier batsman was surprised by a brute of a delivery from Nuwan Kulasekera which looped off the shoulder of the bat to gully.

Pietersen contributed only four, the only failure of a score of 315 for six, as his top-six colleagues all spent valuable time in the middle against a competitive home attack.

Captain Michael Vaughan was the only other genuine dismissal, in fact, as batsmen retired themselves out on a regular basis.

Vaughan showed moments of class, hitting seven boundaries, before being adjudged lbw to Malinga Bandara for 38.

Alastair Cook (63) and Paul Collingwood (52) top-scored for the tourists before heading back to pavilion to give someone else a chance.

Owais Shah and Ravi Bopara, who will be competing for the number six spot in the Test series, batted in tandem for a large chunk of the final session.
