England keep faith with team
11 January 2007
England kept faith with an unchanged line-up and Bangladesh made one change from the side who beat South Africa, bringing in vice-captain Shahriar Nafees as opener to replace Javed Omar Belim.
Successive defeats against Sri Lanka and Australia have left England needing to win their final three matches of the Super Eight stage to stand a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.
Despite suffering the comprehensive seven-wicket defeat to Australia, England retained their faith in the same XI for this must-win game against opponents who have already beaten India and South Africa in the tournament.
They had considered bringing in either newcomer Stuart Broad or recalling Liam Plunkett as a replacement for Lancashire seamer Sajid Mahmood, who was hit for 60 in 9.2 overs against Australia.
But the extra pace and bounce Mahmood can generate persuaded England to retain him in the side on a Kensington Oval pitch which is likely to suit England's seamers more than the other pitches they have experienced so far in the Caribbean.
Middlesex left-hander Andrew Strauss also retained his place after being recalled for the defeat against Australia at the expense of county team-mate Ed Joyce.
