England suffer collapse

England's hopes of building a major first-innings total were blown away by a stunning burst with the new ball as India fought back in the rain-hit opening npower Test at Lord's.

Having won the toss and decided to bat first on Thursday, England would have hoped to reach a competitive score after cruising to 218 for two on the opening day.

But after resuming the second day on 268 for four, which was delayed until 1.50pm after heavy morning storms, England lost six wickets for 26 runs in only 52 balls and were dismissed for a disappointing 298.

Ryan Sidebottom was the first to go, bowled by Rudra Pratap Singh, before Kevin Pietersen edged Zaheer Khan behind.

Sri Sreesanth followed up by dismissing Matt Prior, Chris Tremlett and Monty Panesar, while Zaheer finished things off by bowling Ian Bell.
