England to decide over Champions Trophy

Security fears over the tournament in Pakistan have already led to New Zealand and Australia casting doubts about competing despite meeting with high-ranking figures from the International Cricket Council, the sport's world governing body.

Those concerns are echoed by England, who held their own three-hour meeting on Sunday between the one-day squad, the Professional Cricketers' Association and key figures in the England and Wales Cricket Board - chief executive David Collier and Managing Director Hugh Morris.

They were addressed by ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat, who was questioned by the players about the level of security for the tournament, and will now address the ECB Board tomorrow before England make a final decision.

The players are expected to underline their view that they do not want to visit Pakistan because of fears over their safety, but the ECB are delaying any final decision until they hear from Lorgat and are unlikely to make any announcement until after they have consulted with other Boards.

England coach Peter Moores, who admitted the players and backroom staff were "a little clearer" following the meeting, claimed: "So far it hasn't been a distraction because it's been through a process."

But speaking before Sunday's meeting, Moores explained: "It's a chance to listen to Haroon Lorgat about what the situation is so all the players a fully informed knowing that the board are then going to meet on Tuesday and make a decision on whether we're going or not.

"We want to listen to what Haroon has to say, the key being that if an England team is going there it's got to be safe for them to go otherwise we're not going to go."

Lorgat is also expected to travel to South Africa to talk to their Board about security issues and, if necessary, will then return to England to talk to the one-day squad.
