Coach Stuart Pearce had his players practice a shoot-out after the rout, but there was never a danger of a draw in normal time.
Kieran Richardson opened the scoring with a penalty, Nigel Reo-Coker doubled the lead and late goals from Steven Taylor, Tom Huddlestone and Leroy Lita completed the rout before penalties.
The hosts were ahead in the 35th minute when Ashley Young was tripped by Peter Pekarik in the area and Richardson tucked away the penalty confidently.
Huddlestone had a hand in the second goal as he swept the ball to the left flank to find Young. Leighton Baines eventually crossed and Reo-Coker volleyed home via a deflection courtesy of Michal Jonas.
The third goal came from Taylor, who stabbed home from close range from Wayne Routledge's cross from the left, while Huddlestone curled into the top corner to add a fourth. Lita kept his cool to add a fifth.
