England will not rush return

England will only begin their journey back to India if their tour is confirmed as officially back on.

The England and Wales Cricket Board have considered stopping off in Abu Dhabi to play a practice match ahead of the two-Test series, which is scheduled to begin in Chennai next week.

However, they will not set off to the United Arab Emirates before a decision is made on whether to resume their tour.

Security advisor Reg Dickason has been inspecting the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai along with Board of Control for Cricket in India officials, including board secretary N Srinivasan.

Australian Dickason travelled back to India with several security requests for the host country and is believed to have had great co-operation from the Indian board.

The ECB want to be assured satisfactory safety and security measures are in place for the England players before committing to a resumption of the seven-week trip.

Talks involving managing director England cricket Hugh Morris and Professional Cricketers' Association chief executive Sean Morris continued at Lord's this morning.

Dickason, meanwhile, will now head on to second Test venue Mohali for another inspection before reporting back to the ECB.
