The Serbian, 20, accounted for the Swiss world number one in the semi-finals and underlined his potential with a 4-6 6-4 6-3 7-6 (7/2) victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final.
"It's not possible that only one tournament is changing the history (of tennis). I am sure he (Federer) is going to come back in big style," said Djokovic.
"He's still planning to be the best player in the world, so we all know how good he is. We are going to see a lot of him this year."
