Ferdinand wants Serbs ejected

Former England striker Les Ferdinand has called on UEFA to kick Serbia out of the European Under-21 Championship.

UEFA officials had to make an announcement to stop Serbia fans chanting at England defender Nedum Onuoha on Sunday and the Football Association have also filed a complaint over abuse England players suffered from their opponents in the tunnel after the final whistle.

Ferdinand, cousin of England Under-21 defender Anton, said: "The best outcome would be if they got chucked out of the tournament now. Nothing really will change unless they hand out a punishment to fit the crime."

But European football's governing body will not deal with the issue until July 12 at a meeting of their control and disciplinary body.

"Every now and again racism rears its ugly head and unless there's some real drastic action taken against it, it will continue to do so," added Ferdinand.

"Serbia topped their group in the competition and to chuck them out would have a major impact."
