Fergie charged by FA

Sir Alex Ferguson has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association.

The charge relates to Saturday's encounter with Hull at Old Trafford when Ferguson marched onto the field immediately after his side's 4-3 win to remonstrate with referee Mike Dean.

A clearly annoyed Ferguson offered Dean a few choice words before heading to the home dressing room. He has been given until November 19 to respond.

Ferguson was thought to be upset that Dean, having already booked Michael Turner, did not send the Tigers defender off when he up-ended Michael Carrick in the second half.

At the time, with United 4-1 up, the decision would have seen the Red Devils almost certainly saunter to victory.

To compound the matter, Dean then awarded Hull a penalty for Rio Ferdinand's innocuous-looking challenge on Bernard Mendy.

As the game went on, United's players got increasingly irritated, with Sky television pundit Paul Merson claiming Wayne Rooney should have been sent off for his twin challenges on George Boateng and Andy Dawson when he was only booked.

Although Ferguson has a largely impressive disciplinary record over his 22 years at Old Trafford, the Scot has been in trouble recently.

Twice last season he got involved in spats after matches with Portsmouth.

At Fratton Park, he was furious that Steve Bennett sent off Cristiano Ronaldo but he went further after the FA Cup tie at Old Trafford in March, labelling Martin Atkinson "a disgrace".
