Ferguson hopes for tough workout

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been given an early indication his side will find it competitive in South Africa - and he could not be more delighted.

The squad move on to Durban on Monday to prepare for the Vodacom Challenge match against Orlando Pirates. It will be United's second game of the tournament following the 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

Ferguson said: "It could be another difficult game but that is what we need. I will expect the same commitment from my players as they showed on Saturday. They worked very hard."

Midfielder Chris Eagles, who scored the equaliser against the Chiefs, savoured the moment after making only three appearances for a side that won the Champions League and retained their Premier League title last season.

If he has to move on - and that seems likely - he will do so with considerable reluctance.

"I've been here since I was 14 and I have no plans to leave, " he said.

"The manager is the main person I have to please and I respect him for what he has always done for me.

"It was a good game and I was pleased with my efforts. I had some time against Aberdeen last week and really enjoyed it - I just love playing in the first team."
