Ferguson salutes Berbatov impact

Sir Alex Ferguson has likened Dimitar Berbatov to Eric Cantona for the way he keeps slotting home important goals for Manchester United.

The Bulgarian bagged the second-half winner at Newcastle on Wednesday to keep United seven points clear in the title race, with a game in hand. It was Berbatov's 13th goal since joining the Old Trafford outfit in a club record £30.75million move from Tottenham earlier in the season.

"That is quite a number of winning goals for us now," said Ferguson. "Eric Cantona used to score important goals as well and if he keeps on scoring important goals then it is an emphatic result for us."

He added: "He is a different type of player to what we had last season.

"He has a patience and composure in the last third of the field that is helping us."
