24 January 2008
Figueroa, 25, has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract after the clubs agreed a fee.
He has been the only Wigan player to start every Barclays Premier League game this season and manager Steve Bruce said: "I think he can have a great career with us."
Figueroa signed on loan in January 2008 after initially coming on trial and made his full debut in the final match of last season against Manchester United.
Bruce has been impressed with how the player has settled in England.
He said: "From day one I've been impressed with Maynor's attitude and his professionalism. It's always hard when you come into a foreign country when you don't know anybody and you can't speak the language.
"He has done well for us this season and is now getting used to the rigours of the Premier League. He's strong, quick and powerful and I think the best is yet to come from him."
Figueroa intends to make the most of his time at the JJB Stadium.
He said: "To play in the Premier League has always been a dream for me and I am really happy that Wigan have offered me the chance to stay here. I have had to take every stage as it comes this last 12 months but thankfully it has gone okay for me.
"Now I look forward to being a Wigan player for the next few seasons. I want to thank Steve Bruce for having faith in me and I hope I can repay him by serving the club to the best of my abilities during my time here."
