Finnigan becomes a Giant

Huddersfield continued their close-season recruitment drive on Thursday with the capture of Bradford second-rower Simon Finnigan on a three-year deal.

It is second time lucky for the Giants, who lost out to the Bulls when 26-year-old Finnigan was released by Salford just over a year ago.

"I was close to coming here in the past and I'm delighted to be signing now," said Finnigan, who is in Ireland's squad for the World Cup. "It is a club on the up and it's an exciting time to join. There are some really good players here and I will have to work hard to earn my place in the team."

Former Widnes player Finnigan, who was out of contract at Bradford, is the fifth signing so far for new coach Nathan Brown, and Huddersfield are also being linked with a move for Wakefield prop Michael Korkidas.

Giants managing director Richard Thewlis said: "Simon's capture is another key move as we put together the 2009 squad.

"He has an outstanding try-scoring record for a forward and a wealth of experience under his belt, and at 26 years of age he still has his best years ahead of him.

"The fact that he chose to spend those with us and not the other clubs who were chasing him is again a clear demonstration that under the coaching of Nathan Brown we are viewed in a very positive light by players."
