Fitzgerald out long term

Ireland wing Luke Fitzgerald faces up to six months on the sidelines after injuring his knee in the 20-20 draw with Australia at the weekend.

The Leinster man was involved in an awkward collision in Sunday's game and now faces surgery to repair the ruptured lateral collateral ligament in his left knee.

A statement from the Irish Rugby Football Union read: "Following medical review and scans of his left knee, it has been confirmed that (Luke) Fitzgerald sustained a ruptured lateral collateral ligament that will require surgical repair and intensive post operative rehabilitation."

The statement continued: "He is scheduled for surgery at the Sports Surgery Clinic on Tuesday, with a projected recovery period of four to six months."
