Fletcher rounds on pundits

Duncan Fletcher has hit out at Sir Ian Botham and Geoffrey Boycott for their criticism of him during his tenure as England coach.

Fletcher claims the opinion of legendary all-rounder Botham is not respected by the current players, while accusing the outspoken Boycott of levelling "vitriolic" personal criticism at him.

The Zimbabwean, writing in 'Behind the Shades', which is being serialised by the Daily Mail, said: "He (Botham) thinks the players listen to him but they do not. Often you would go into the dressing room and hear the players in exasperation saying things like: 'Have you heard what Botham is saying about the wicket?'"

Recalling Boycott's claims that Fletcher was harming county cricket in England, the former coach said: "It was just the start of a litany of scornful stuff from Boycott.

"And it did annoy me, not so much the personal side of things at that time, although that changed as he became more vitriolic, but the fact that I thought he had his facts wrong and did not understand what I was doing."
