The Lancastrian was taken to a Barbados hospital on Saturday to have tests after battling through a chest infection for the last 10 days, but the tests proved negative.

Flintoff was given the all-clear to practice with the rest of the squad on Sunday morning at the Winwards Ground in Barbados and is expected to be fit for Tuesday's crunch match against South Africa.

Left-hander Andrew Strauss, who has only just returned to the side after England preferred Middlesex team-mate Ed Joyce for the start of the tournament, was also facing a fitness test.

Strauss suffered a dead leg following a collision with bowling coach Kevin Shine while playing beach volleyball on Saturday, but is also expected to be fit.

Victory in Tuesday's match and Saturday's showdown with West Indies would ensure England's first progress into the World Cup semi-finals since 1992.
