Flintoff expects Collingwood recovery

Andrew Flintoff refused to be drawn on who will lead England's one-day side should Paul Collingwood be unavailable.

Collingwood was forced to miss Wednesday's practice session for Thursday's fourth NatWest Series match against India after contracting stomach cramps overnight, but is expected to recover in time to lead the side out for the day-night encounter at Old Trafford.

The Lancashire all-rounder said on Sky Sports News: "I'm fully expecting Paul to turn up on Thursday, toss the coin, and lead the side."

He added: "Paul's a tough lad. I think he got a little bit of a bug. I fully expect him to turn up and lead the side."

Should the worst happen, England would be faced with a dilemma over who would skipper the team.

Flintoff is the only player in the squad with previous captaincy experience at Test and one-day international level but was famously stripped of the role of vice-captain following a late-night drinking session at this year's World Cup.

Flintoff is himself not certain to play, having missed Monday's win at Edgbaston after twisting a knee.

He said: "We'll just have to see how I am overnight. I'm not concerned. My knee's flared up.

"It's not the end of the world. I missed the game of cricket but I've got time to play plenty more. There's four more games in the series."
