Flintoff missing for England

All-rounder Andrew Flintoff was ruled out of England's bid to seal a first one-day series victory on home soil for three years.

He misses the penultimate match of the NatWest Series against India at The Oval due to his ankle injury.

Flintoff, 29, went to see the surgeon who performed the third and latest operation on his left ankle on Tuesday evening and it is not yet clear how long he will be sidelined.

England, who give a debut to Sussex's Luke Wright and also recalled Dimitri Mascarenhas, won the toss and captain Paul Collingwood opted to bat.

India made one change to the side which won at Headingley to reduce the deficit to 3-2 with Dinesh Karthik replaced by Robin Uthappa.

England's medical staff are due to discuss Flintoff's situation and an announcement on his potential return is expected later on Wednesday.
