Flintoff returns for England

Andrew Flintoff was today named in the England team for their Ashes decider at the Brit Oval.

The lynchpin all-rounder missed the fourth npower Test at Headingley because of fears over a chronic injury in his right knee. But England were always optimistic he would be fit for what will be his final Test, following the announcement of his impending retirement earlier this summer.

Flintoff replaces seamer Graham Onions from the team beaten in Leeds. The only other change was middle-order batsman Jonathan Trott's inclusion for a debut after Ravi Bopara was dropped from the squad last weekend.

England therefore resisted the temptation to play two spinners in a match they must win.

Australia were unchanged from the fourth Test, meaning there is no place after all for either fit-again fast bowler Brett Lee or off-spinner Nathan Hauritz.

England captain Andrew Strauss won the toss and decided to bat first.
