Flintoff ruled out of Edgbaston clash

England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has been ruled out of today's third NatWest Series contest against India at Edgbaston.

Flintoff, 29, injured his right knee in the second match at Bristol on Friday, which India won to level the series at 1-1, and had a cortisone injection in a bid to play.

However, the England management decided not to risk him and named left-arm spinner Monty Panesar as his replacement.

They were also forced to make another late change when Dimitri Mascarenhas took a knock to his right hand in practice.

Although it was not thought to be serious, Owais Shah was drafted in to take his place.

India won the toss and chose to bowl first, strengthened by the return of left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan in place of Ajit Agarkar.
